Doug’s Asian-Inspired Burger

July 1st, 2024
Throughout the month of July, we’re celebrating the almighty burger! Every year we put a spin on summer’s quintessential dish with recipes by our WFM culinary team. This year we asked a few of our “non-culinary” staffers to share their favorite way to enjoy a burger. And they went all out with some super unique and creative recipes! We’re excited to share them with you here.
Doug’s Asian-Inspired Burger is brought to you by our very own Doug in Woodstock’s meat & seafood department.

Ingredients for burger

  • 1 lb. ground beef (I prefer 100% grass-fed ground beef, but this is up to individual taste)
  • Worcestershire sauce
  • Garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper
  • 4 slices Swiss cheese (optional)
  • Creamy peanut butter (Peanut butter, you ask? Think beef stir fry with peanut sauce, and that should quell any concerns.)
  • 4 hamburger buns

 Ingredients for Asian Slaw

  • 6 cups shredded cabbage (red and green)
  • ½ of a red onion sliced
  • 1 tablespoon diced ginger
  • 2 teaspoons diced garlic
  • 2 teaspoons diced Jalapeno pepper
  • 1 bunch cilantro, chopped

Ingredients for dressing

  • 2 tablespoons rice wine vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons sesame oil
  • 5 teaspoons chili oil
  • 2 tablespoons sweet soy
  • 2 tablespoons Mirin (Japanese cooking wine)
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce

Steps

  1. Mix what feels like the right amount of Worcestershire sauce (4 shakes), garlic powder (2 pinches), salt and pepper into your ground beef.
  2. Shape into 4 basic patties, and grill ‘em up. I like to add a slice of Swiss cheese a minute or so before removing from the grill. Any cheese or no cheese is fine. No one’s grading you on this!
  3. Stay with me, here. To either the burger or the bun (lightly grilled), spread your favorite creamy peanut butter (I like Green Mountain Plain Jane).
  4. Top with Asian Slaw

Bon appétit!
