Nina’s Garlic Herb Burger

Throughout the month of July, we’re celebrating the almighty burger! Every year we put a spin on summer’s quintessential dish with recipes by our WFM culinary team. This year we asked a few of our “non-culinary” staffers to share their favorite way to enjoy a burger. And they went all out with some super unique and creative recipes! We’re excited to share them with you here.
Nina’s Garlic Herb Burger is brought to you by Nina, our much-beloved cashier manager in Woodstock.

Ingredients for burger 

  • 4 8 oz. burger patties  
  • 4 whole wheat buns 
  • Mushrooms, sliced and sautéed 
  • Lettuce 
  • Cheddar cheese 
  • Garlic herb aioli 

Garlic herb aioli 

  • 1 ½ c. mayonnaise 
  • ¼ c. fresh herbs of your choice, finely chopped (basil, cilantro, parsley, tarragon, or cilantro) 
  • 2 Tbsp minced garlic 
  • Pinch of kosher salt 

Caramelized onions 

  • Two large onions 
  • Olive oil 
  • Butter 
  • Salt 

Steps for garlic herb aioli 

  1. Place minced garlic in a bowl. 
  2. Sprinkle with salt. 
  3. Add mayonnaise and herbs.  
  4. Stir and serve! 

Steps for caramelized onions 

  1. Thinly slice the onions, lengthwise. 
  2. Heat the olive oil or butter/olive oil combo at medium high and add onions. 
  3. Reduce heat to medium or medium-low so onions don’t burn. 
  4. Lightly sprinkle onions with salt. 
  5. Stir to coat onions with oil and let cook, stirring occasionally, for 30 minutes or so, until onions are golden brown. 

Steps for burger 

  1. Liberally salt and pepper the burger patties, before grilling to temp. 
  2. Melt cheddar cheese over burgers. 
  3. Toast buns on the grill to lightly brown. 
  4. Place buns on a plate and apply garlic herb aioli to both sides of the buns. 
  5. Place burger on bottom bun. 
  6. Top with sautéed mushrooms, a slice of tomato, and lettuce leaf.
