As much as we love a simple, no-frills burger, with nothing but a slab of cheese and a slice of tomato, there’s so much more you can do with this summer favorite. A few additional ingredients can turn your typical burger into a culinary masterpiece!
Just in time for burger season, our culinary team has created four original burger recipes that are anything but traditional. Each week during “Elevate Your Burger” we’ll be bringing you another one to add to your summer barbecue repertoire.
This week’s burger recipe, Kyle’s Surf ‘N’ Turf Burger, is brought to you by our longtime meat and seafood manager, Kyle Hickory.
Ingredients
- Two 4 oz Lucas Farm Burger Patties (you could use one, but I’m not!)
- ½ of one Earth And Sea Crab Cake
- 2 oz of your favorite cheese (I’m using Grafton Smoked Cheddar)
- 1 brioche bun
- 2 Tbsp Cajun Remoulade (recipe below, or can be subbed with Stonewall Kitchen Seafood Remoulade!)
- 1 leaf green leaf lettuce
- 1 slice ripe tomato
- Finely sliced onion
- 1 Tbsp butter, olive oil, or your favorite cooking fat!
- Salt and pepper, as always!
Cajun Remoulade
- 1 cup mayo
- 1 Tbsp Cajun seasoning (or Jed’s Maple Cajun Seasoning)
- 2 Tbsp diced dill pickles
- 1 Tbsp chopped capers
- Juice of ½ lemon
- 1 Tbsp Dijon mustard
- 1 Tbsp chopped parsley
- Salt and pepper to taste
All Remoulade ingredients should be mixed in a bowl and left to sit in the refrigerator overnight.
Instructions
This recipe can be prepared on a grill (the preferred method) but allows for a flat top, or use your air fryer (we use them for everything!).
- Liberally salt and pepper the burger patties, before grilling to temp.
- Take half of the crabcake and form into a burger-sized patty; grill until hot and slightly crisp on outside.
- Melt cheese over burgers and apply butter to inside of buns; grill to lightly brown.
- Place buns on plate and apply remoulade to both sides.
- Place one burger on bottom bun, add crab cake patty, and then place other burger on top. You’ve got a sandwich inside a sandwich!
- Top with lettuce, tomato, and onion.
- Put top bun on!
Notable Upgrades
- Add bacon, cause you should add bacon to everything!
- Allergic to seafood? Try it with a boneless, skinless fried chicken thigh! (Then you’ll have the Bomb from Worth Kitchen!)
- Don’t do beef? Sub out the burger patties with grilled portobello.
- Starving? Use the whole crab cake!
- Pair with WFM’s Collaboration Beer “Beer Geek,” a great day outdoors, and good friends.
