Our Bakehouse, located next door to the Market, keeps our deli case packed with sweet treats. On a busy week, the bakery team pumps out over 1,000 cookies, hundreds of fruit pies, and dozens of individual specialty desserts, like their popular mini creme brulees and carrot cupcakes.
As we head into “baking season,” when most of us crave oven-fresh goodies, we appreciate our talented Farmers’ bakers all the more. If you haven’t met our bakery leader, we’d like to introduce you!
Jakub joined the bakery team last winter. For the past 10 months, he’s worked side-by-side with Stacy, a veteran in the Bakehouse, to learn the ins and outs of managing the bakery. With the rest of the team, they’ve taken the Bakehouse to a new “production” level. Our ovens are busier than ever, thanks to the demand for our cookies and pies at our new store in Waterbury.
Jakub grew up in New Canaan, CT and Bridgewater, VT, in a family that loved baking and cooking. He says that his Italian mother was his earliest culinary influence. After high school, he decided to pursue a career in the culinary arts and completed his bachelor’s degree at the New England Culinary Institute.
When he’s not at the Market, Jakub spends time foraging for wild edible plants, and growing and preserving raspberries and gooseberries. He also enjoys cooking family meals for and with his friends.
He says that one of the best perks of working at the Market is unlimited refills of French Roast coffee. And what’s his favorite dessert? Roasted Banana Ice Cream!
